Taiji is the ancestral language I inherited

A language through which my body speaks to the water, fire, wood and earth elements dancing within

When my gait moves like a mountain

The cells of my body remember the time when they slept in the caverns deep inside the dark belly of the mountains

When my hands wave like clouds

The cells of my body remember the time when they arose as mists from a glistening alpine lake under the morning sun

Every time my palms turn toward each other

“Embracing the ball” – that’s what my Sifu called it

I feel as if I am receiving a child born out of the void

With reverence and utmost care

I embrace the child

And then let it go
